One of the main benefits of personal training is having someone who can show you how to work on your health, fitness and gym specific goals in a safe and effective way. Many people have actually no clue of what they are doing when it comes to such topics, but are more than willing to try and completely make up their own plan as they’re going along and hope for some kind of result at the end of it.
Think about that for a moment! Most people have no idea what they’re doing when it comes to their health and fitness, but are willing to try anything without supervision to get a successful result. In what other aspect of life would you do that? Imagine you had tooth ache, so you drive to a dentist and attempt to fix it yourself, ignoring offers of help? This sounds mad right? Then surely if you are trying to improve your fitness, diet and health you also need the help of a professional. Don't you? Just hoping that working up a sweat must be doing something is not an effective way to approach these health and fitness issues.
Working up a sweat must be better than doing nothing though surely! Just like poking at that toothache must be doing some good surely?! Personal Training can provide you with a specific, safe, structured and effective plan to get you the best results.
I have been Personal Training straight out of University and it really is a job I love doing. I consistently study the latest courses available and always look to improve my knowledge where I can. When working with a client I like to make sure people are firstly at ease in the gym and with what we are doing. Depending on the goals of the person I will put together a plan that will ensure the quickest possible result.
Most of my biggest success stories with clients have come from those who had never stepped into a gym before. Taking someone from a complete beginner and teaching them how to be an expert in training and nutrition is hugely rewarding. Nearly all of my training with people is based on weight training and toning, I only use cardio for short, fast explosive periods of time. Even though this may sound like a vigorous approach, nothing gets in the way of perfect technique.
If you want results you have to be willing to train hard, I have found as long as I can fully explain why I want a client to do something, it is easy to get them to push past their limits. I train myself pretty hard so I like people to feel the same pain I do. 🙂

After leaving University I wanted to take what I had learnt and apply it to people straight away. Understanding how the body works in relation to exercise and nutrition is something I have enjoyed learning since I was about 16. I remember when I was a beginner and joined my first gym, how important it was to ask people for help to make sure things I was doing were safe and effective.
When working with clients I put a lot of emphasis on posture and ensuring correct movement when someone is performing any exercise. A lot of people have benefited from the posture and movement analysis we do at the very beginning of training. If you can get someone to move pain free with correct posture you can get them to do anything! I like to use all types of equipment and I make most of my training with clients functional so it applies to everyday life as well as gym work. This offers lots of variations so people don’t get bored easily. If I get people to enjoy training, they do it consistently, people who are consistent get the best results.
